In a significant move towards phasing out hazardous pesticides and prioritize safer alternatives, South Africa has put forth a proposal to ban the use of chlorpyrifos and cartap hydrochloride as active ingredients in agricultural and pest control products. The proposed ban aims to address concerns regarding the harmful effects of these chemicals on human health and the environment.
As part of the regulatory process, the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development has also invited the public, including farmers, environmentalists, scientists, and concerned citizens, to submit written comments and provide feedback on the proposed ban within a 60-day period. This open consultation aims to ensure that all stakeholders have the opportunity to contribute their perspectives and insights.
