Temporary Authorization in Spain for sunflower seeds treated with METALAXIL-M against Sunflower mildew

The current conflict between Russia and Ukraine has reduced the availability of sunflower-related commodities globally. As a response to this global market deficit, Spanish producers and the Ministry of Agriculture are taking measures towards increasing the supply of seeds and stocks of sunflower. One of these measures has been the approval of a Temporary Authorization in Spain for sunflower seeds treated with METALAXIL-M 33.9% [ES] P/V, against Sunflower mildew (Plasmopara halstedii) in Castilla La Mancha, until 19 june 2022.This authorization will allow to increase the overall national sunflower seed stock. This stock surplus would be available to supply seed to additional planting areas, freeing up production to obtain sunflower seed for the next season and ensuring supplies for the following 2023 campaign.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, sunflower seeds affected by this new authorization and treated with Metalaxil-M 33.9% [ES] P/V at a dose of 0.3 L/100 Kg seeds, should be incorporated into the soil at a minimum depth of 2.5 cm. All seeds treated on the surface due to accidental spills must be collected and discarded. According to the authorization, only seed from certain producers (SYNGENTA, LIDEA SPAIN S.A., LIMAGRAIN IBÉRICA S.A., KWS SEMILLAS IBÉRICA S.L.U), will be used.
